Friday my friend Chrystal and I headed down to Seattle for the night which was great! Then on Saturday we attended an all day conference for divorce care for kids, which is a program we'll be leading at our church in the fall. I lead it last spring, but it was so good to get more background on it and to understand their vision and reasons behind a lot of the things they do. At times, it made me feel kind of inadequate, because their model of how to run it is so different from how I ran it! If anything though, it's making me need to turn to God again and again, because He truly is my strength in weakness and this is not a program I can run without Him! I'm not overly gifted with kids and it doesn't really come naturally for me, so it's pretty draining, but I trust that the Lord will continually be filling me as I lead this ministry at church!
All in all, it was a great time to be in Seattle and just have a fun little road trip down there as well!
Now you're all probably wondering about the second part of the title. This is where the adventure of the evening comes in. I was standing in the kitchen talking to my mom when suddenly i thought "gee, that was a very big moth.." suddenly my brain started functioning properly and I realized what I had thought to be a moth was in fact a bat whizzing around in my kitchen. I ran away. Grabbed my hoodie to cover my head (I have a phobia of bats getting stuck in my hair..) Anyway, my mom and I decided we would just lock ourselves somewhere where the bat wasn't and stay there forever (not the most logical idea).
After a while of wandering around the house bundled up in our hoodies, carrying towels (in case we could perhaps swat it or something), we realized that we really were quite helpless against the bat.. mostly because we would run away at the sight of it. Luckily at that time, Theo called and then proceeded to come over in order to rescue us from the terrors of the bat. Of course, when he arrived we had no idea where the bat had gone. After a while we were walking up the stairs and I tapped one of the tapestries in hopes that perhaps the bat was behind it. But to my surprise as I glanced at the tapestry, I realized the bat was sitting right on it. Make sure you check it out in this picture!
So, my mom went outside and got the pool net and Theo trapped it there... And then we made him stand there a while with the pool net while thinking of what to do next!
In the end, the bat finally transferred his claws from the tapestry to the net and Theo managed to get him into the bucket and then outside back into his natural homeland! What a night! Turns out my brother had taken off the screen in his room and left it out and also left the window open in order to invite some nice friends to come and live with us! Oh well, makes for some fun adventures nonetheless!
